A Dior exhibition recently opened its doors at the UCCA. The Ullens Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing hosts the exhibition entitled “Christian Dior and Chinese Artists” until January 15th 2009. The contemporary artwork of some 20+ artists are inspired by the Dior fashion house, currently celebrating its 60th year. Practically all the mediums have been tapped: sculpture, photography, video and paintings are showcased in several installations. The vast collection of provocative musings are accompanied with a selection of Dior haute couture fashion pieces.

From the exhibition:

“Conceived as a highly innovative project, this exhibition creates a dialogue between two continents and two different means of expression, contemporary art and fashion. A legendary name, synonymous around the world with haute couture, places itself as a source of inspiration for major Chinese artists.

[...]

The originality of this project relies on an unusual layout that brings the visitor to the heart of the Chinese art scene, currently one of the world’s most innovative, audacious and productive. The works reveal a unique process of confronting Eastern and Western cultures in a futuristic perspective.”
