dom perignon oenotheque bol sein 1 Dom Pérignon OEnothèque Bol Sein

Karl Lagerfeld’s creativity continues with the Dom Pérignon Œnothèque Bol Sein: the bosom bowl. The limited edition bowl is a gift with the purchase of the 1995 vintage of Œnothèque, of which only 1,000 were bottled. The to be collector’s item was inspired by a similar bowl that was once modeled on Marie-Antoinette’s breast. The form of the current edition is that of Lagerfeld’s muse: Claudia Schiffer. Crack open a bottle of this on New Year’s. Ticket price: €2,500.

macallan 57 year old lalique The Macallan Lalique III

The Macallan-Lalique partnership continues with the third installment of a continuous series between the Scottish and Alsatian iconic brands. The Macallan Lalique III is a 57 year old Highland single malt whiskey which is limited to only 420 bottles. The previous installments of the series were the 50 and 55 year old vintages. Each Lalique decanter is handmade that involves the work of twenty-five craftsmen and hours of work. The decanter of The Macallan Lalique III is inspired from paquerettes tiara perfume bottles, the stoppers are told to be unique as each has a distiguishable off amber shade reflecting the liquor’s colour. There’s a bottle of The Macallan which currently holds the record for the most expensive liquor ever sold. In 2007 a 1926 vintage The Macallan was sold at a Christie’s auction for $54,000. This bottle will cost you $18,500 plus shipping. It’s available at Planet of Wine. Question: Whose house would I have to visit to be able to taste this?

beppi crosariol wine chemistry 540x310 The Chemistry of Wine Service

Beppi Crosariol has his Decanter column in the Globe and Mail’s Life section. Great perspectives and advice on wine, liquor and alcohol of all types. Over time, via his quasi-educational reporting any pedestrian alcoholic could be brought to full literacy. It this installment we learn the depths of what types of wine - grape or vintage, in what sequence and what temperature it is ideal to serve several them.  For example, when and where you should serve a Chateau Mouton 1982.  To paraphrase Beppi, don’t put an acoustic set on stage after a Metallica show. And apparently, it isn’t sacrilege to cool down a glass of wine with ice. (Pity he doesn’t go into advising the stemware or decanters for that matter.)

ginza tanaka gold beer mug Gold Beer Mug

What Japanese goldsmith Ginza Tanaka decided to do with 850 grams of gold was to craft a beer mug. Apparently, consuming the beverage from a golden mug adds to the pleasure of beer drinking. Drinking beer from a glass the cost of a luxury car is the ultimate cool experience, so states the designer. Ginza is also known for other gold workings, namely the golden threaded bikinis, X-mas statuettes and other luxurious golden miscellanea. Gold wine glasses are also available at $30/gram. The solid gold beer mug’s ticket price: $50,000.

rosangel tequila gran centenario Gran Centenario Rosangel

I’m dying to taste this hibiscus infused tequila. Gran Centenario only recently launched this innovation.  The base spirit is their Reposado tequila in which selected hibiscus flowers soak for 2 months lending the beverage its rose hue and complex notes. This is a quaint reminder to that sealed bottle of Gran Centenario Anejo still stashed in my liquor cabinet. It beckons…

cabo wabo uno Cabo Uno

Cabo Wabo Reposado is among my favorite tequilas. Uno is in a league of its own.  It was launched just under a year ago. Here’s some info from the press release:

“Cabo Uno is the result of a rare event, where the biding patience of nature and meticulous human craftsmanship converge at a precise moment to create perfection. Indeed, from the first moment you touch the crystal decanter to that first instant where the tequila itself touches your lips, it becomes immediately apparent that Cabo Uno is a tequila unlike any other.”
